Head Coach Brian Allison reflects on the 14-7 Win against the Cherokee Bluff Bears, saying “Our guys battled back really well to come back and score.” After a tough loss to the Bears in the inaugural season, this game was marked on many Bronco players and fans calendars. The fans were decked out in pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

After an evenly matched half, the score was 0-0.  While the rest of the team headed to the locker room at the half, seniors David Navarrete and Garrett Wiggins remained on the field for the Homecoming Court Celebration. After being crowned King, Wiggins said “It was really cool to win, but my top priority was beating Cherokee Bluff.”

With six minutes to go in the third quarter, the Bears struck first by throwing it in for a touchdown. On the next possession for the Broncos, sophomore Brock Szakacs, quarterback #15, completed a 48 yard pass to sophomore Andrew Frank, wide receiver #13, on the 3 yard line. Plays after, junior Will Moffit, #9, tied the game on a 3 yard run.

On the kickoff, senior Luke Droegemueller, kicker #7, lined up for a successful onside kick and recovered it himself. “It was the best moment of my high school career,” said Droegemueller. This was a pivotal moment in the game causing some positive momentum.

Following a huge stop by the Broncos defense, Szakacs, quarterback #15, connected to junior Jack Brumbelow, tight end #4, for a touchdown giving East Forsyth a 7 point lead late in the 4th quarter. With 6:12 to go in the game, senior Gage Gilley, cornerback #10, caused a fumble that was recovered by sophomore Troy Hoover, outside linebacker #18, on the Bluff 36 yard line. The Broncos offense was able to run the clock out from this point on by pounding the rock with Hoover at running back, behind the offensive line of Alex Day #50, Jackson Mayo #70, Mitchell Dunlap #72, Rick Wiggins #76, and Kevin Parsons #78.

The Broncos overall record is 5-2, and their next home game is Thursday October 17th vs. Madison County Red Raiders.
